Flowers Project, first session

We started our new project looking at the sometimes underestimated genre of flower painting. Some elected to use a textured acrylic paint ground in black and white with oil pastel on top. Others went for a sfumato-style powdered ground using soft pastels. It looks like there will be some really interesting and creative responses to this project! Plus there's a rather lovely landscape from Karen.

Week 3 Project One

We are nearing completion of project two. This project is helping us to decide which of the two pastel mediums to focus on using for the rest of the term. There seems to be a leaning towards the oil pastels for many. This seems to be giving the best or most interesting results on the heavy textured acrylic ground. The results below are all fantastic examples of a freedom to explore.

Week 2: project one mixed media

We moved onto step two of out first mini project. The aim is to add two types of pastel medium, oil and soft, to the two acrylic tonal paintings and learn how different media respond to a heavily textured ground. For the next project in week 4 we each choose which One more week on this project and already the results are wonderful.

Can you guess yet which one has the first layer of oil pastels and which has the first layer of soft pastels?
