We are in the newly refurbished education room downstairs in the Shipley. Its a great space - light, airy, lots of resources. Here we are choosing our textile examples for our new project on surface design. See the previous post for the images we created.
This blog is a virtual learning environment to support learners and tutors' practice/course content development. It is also to encourage learners and tutors to discuss, share and grow their artistic interest and skill. All work is copyright of the artists.

Surface Design Project (Shipley) Week One
We are at the Shipley again for a new 2-week project. We are exploring surface design of textile art produced by local artists as an exercise in developing our observation skills; pattern, texture, and colour skills. A stunning array of mark making, colour blending, broken colour, and general skills progression. Here we can see the whole image and a detail revealing the beauty of pastel painting even in this simple exercise. Next week we study folds, light, as well as surface properties. In order of appearance: Anne, Bob, Frank, Harry, Mary, Michael, Moira, and Peter:
Other work completed June 2011
Mary created a Mackintosh study (top) and Peter completed his large landscape pastel painting (bottom). Fantastic colours and application of solid pastel. Such a contrast between the two which is typical of the wide range of work that happens in our group.
