Week 7 - textured grounds

Some of us completed our textured ground project today, with a few still in process. Next week we will see a mix of people either finishing their textured ground project paintings or moving onto our final project "Creating a Scene". There are some amazing textured effects in the images below - quite different to our usual pastel paintings, with a different type of drama in the images, fascinating stuff:

Painting on a Textured Ground - week 2

Some fantastic results from all in the group. See below for amazing textural surfaces mixed with soft pastel. It is proving to be a very immediate approach for all in the group with paintings developing faster than in any previous project. Below includes a mixture of completed paintings and those at various stages. Next week is the final week for this project. Then we start of our final three-week project "Creating a Scene".

Other cultures plus our new project

After a two-week break we reviewed our "other cultures" project. The resulting paintings have been really helpful in terms of boosting our creativity and our use of colour. We also started our next three-week project "using textured grounds". You can see below black and white paintings which are painted with acrylic paint using a heavy impasto gel medium to thicken it. We will then paint on top of the textured acrylic ground with our soft pastels. Some great paintings already! We also said a big hearty "welcome back" to Bob who has returned to the group from hospital.
