We started our new term with a new project looking at landscapes. This time we started by analysing the tonal properties of a landscape image using black and white acrylic paints. We mixed the paint with a gel impasto medium to give it extra body. This is so we can have a deeply textured surface for our next stage which is to add full colour using pastels. We are doing two versions of the same subject to compare the effects and techniques of oil and soft pastels.
Shown firstly below is one from our family portrait project which we did before Christmas on which some of us are still developing at home. This is followed by the first stage texture ground paintings (two versions per leaner).
