Urban and Industrial Heritage Project

Here are some images of Gateshead, Newcastle and the Tyne, to show the range of possible choices in this project. These can only be viewed in this very small scale so are just to whet your appetite. Take your own photos is probably best or a book, pop in to the main library and ask the librarians for the local history section.

TIPS:
Working from black and white or sepia photographs: you could make this a monochrome study or get some colour photos of the location as it is today, or similar, and use the new colour information to add colours to the monochrome original. This would also mimic, in  a way, the old craft of hand tinted photographs.

Working from old colour postcards and photographs: the colours used in the printing presses of those days give postcards their peculiar charm. You could try to replicate this in your image. This would be especially interesting on a larger format, say A3.
